Removing Scratches from Stainless Steel Sinks
It's possible to remove or minimize many scratches and have your sink look shiny and new again. Here's how:
What You'll Need:
Dry scouring powder like Bar Keepers Friend or Revere Stainless Steel cleaner
Scotch-Brite pad or fine grit sandpaper
Soft cloth
Stainless steel polish (optional)
Step 1: Clean the Sink First, give the sink a thorough cleaning to remove any dirt, grease or debris. Use a non-abrasive cleaner made specifically for stainless steel.
Step 2: Apply Scouring Powder
Sprinkle a liberal amount of the dry scouring powder directly onto the scratched area.
Step 3: Scrub the Scratches Using a Scotch-Brite pad or fine 400-600 grit sandpaper, rub the powder into the scratches using small, circular motions. Apply firm and even pressure. Scrub in the direction of the grain if possible.
Step 4: Rinse and Dry Rinse away all the scouring powder residue with clean water and dry the sink thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Step 5 (Optional): Apply Polish For an extra shine, apply a stainless steel polish with a soft cloth, going with the grain. Buff off any excess.
And that's it! With some elbow grease, most light to moderate scratches should be minimized or disappear completely. For deeper gouges, you may need to repeat the process several times. Maintaining your stainless sink is easy when you know the right techniques.
